Barcelona Squad Analysis - Introduction
The 2020-21 season has been a roller coaster. The club was in turmoil at the start of the season and around 10 matchdays in we were 8th in the league. Koeman did sturdy the ship and bring some silverware in the form of the Copa del Rey, but the end to the La Liga season was far from desirable. Most culers have appreciated what Koeman has done this season, but believe that he is not the coach to move the club forward. For me, first I would say not winning La Liga is disappointing, but if we do look at the overall picture I think the season has been a success. Koeman of course has struggled in the big matches and he is tactically not very sound. I can see both sides of the argument, but I think it is up to Joan Laporta to decide on Koeman’s future. What I’ll discuss here and now, is the Revolution. I’ll be giving my opinion on who should stay, who should go and who we should buy. I’ll be doing this not only through my knowledge of watching Barcelona throughout the season, but also going more in depth by using advanced metrics. This is just the introduction to the Barcelona Squad Analysis Series, so go check out the first edition of the Barcelona Squad Analysis - Formation and Goalkeepers. Stay tuned and remember, it’s more than a blog.
